I apologize if this isn't an appropriate inquiry for this sub, but I wasn't sure where better to start.
I'm trying to build a sound-tight window plug that can be easily removed like a window shutter. In order for it to be sound tight, it will need to be both thick (a mix of MDF and foam) and have no gaps around the edges so it seals tightly with the frame. Because of this, a normal window shutter hinge won't work since it won't fit in the frame at an angle.
I need a hinge of some kind that will allow the shutter to slide straight out of the frame, and then rotate around the hinge.
The best idea I have come up with so far is to have the frame slide-out using something like this and then have a hinge attached to it. The problem with this design is that the shutter won't have anything to run into when closing and will swing somewhat freely past the plane that it needs to align with, potentially making it awkward to close the shutter.
Does anyone know of a hinge or hinge-like contraption that will allow an attached object to first move perpendicular to the plane it is aligned with, and then rotate away from that plane after it has moved enough?
I also did find this slide out flip up hinge which may (as a general design idea) work, though that specific one has the wrong angles.
One concern is that the amount of available space _inside_ the frame is very small, barely enough to house the window plug/shutter so I suspect I'll need to mount the hinges on the outside, which makes stuff like a flipper door slide and hinge probably not an option.
