Help with Choosing What to Research

This question is not to get direct help with finding research so much as it is to help with finding research topics. I'm (obviously) a mechanical engineer and I'm starting my minor in Computer Science, starting my second year in August. I know that I have plenty of time to choose research before I apply for a Masters, but after dabbling in some research (that unfortunately I did not find the topic very interesting) last semester, I discovered that I love it.

To clarify briefly, I am not asking for motivation to be an engineer or asking WHAT I like. I love maths and sciences and am interested in many things, particularly 3D printing and DIY nonsense, and more academically, I am curious about things like using biology to better engineering, environmental conservation, and designing efficient and beautiful systems (be it race cars, engines, or heat systems). However, I cannot say that I have any "passions" which is why it is difficult to figure it out.

I have been looking through my university's professors' research but honestly there is so much information that I can be overwhelming. Which is why I'm asking if anyone has any tips for how to find out particularly what they chose to research? There are just so many interesting (and uninteresting topics that initially seem interesting) that I can't digest it all.

Thanks!
