Pursuing a different career

Hello reddit! I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, but I'm having a hard time in finding a job related to ME because I'm not a licensed Engineer in our country. I was offered a job as a Software Engineer in an IT company, and I would just like to ask you people if it's worth it to make the jump? I feel like I dont want to waste my 5 years in university and end up having a career not related to my degree. I still aspire to have a job related to ME, but in our country, you need to become a licensed ME first which is so hard to achieve because the board exam is pretty tough.
