I have a design for a grasping appendage I need to improve. It uses a rubber jumping popper with talons poked through that snap shut when the popper pops. Pretty simple.
I want to increase the energy density of the elastic material (stiffer plastic or metal) so I can get better grip strength per mass. Theoretically, a bistable popper can be fabricated from any hollow elastic sphere if its cut correctly, so I've been trying to find them made from other materials, but so far not much luck. I believe a shallow steel 'saucer' might also, work but I'm not sure how to source. Any ideas?
