Transition to building services from aerospace

Hi all,

So I'm an aerospace design engineer with 8 year experience (though the last year being in automotive) but I've moved to south east London where aerospace jobs are non existent, and similar mechanical roles (automotive/rail) nearly so. There is however an abundance of building services companies and roles. I don't currently have the funds (without taking a loan) to study and get the skills im missing, but I've been applying for building services jobs in the hope that ive got enough transferable skills that i could fulfill my base responsibilities and learn the rest on the job.

No luck so far, so i was wondering if anyone has any experience moving into building services (or civil engineering), how much there is to learn, whether studying is necessary etc?

Any advice is much appreciated!
