Hello,
I graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering about a year ago. I've been with my current employer for just over a year and every project they give me has gone over the deadline. I can tell my managers are getting annoyed with my performance and I'm tired of letting them down.
I'm still learning how to navigate the company's various systems but overall I feel like I'm struggling with the design process. Sometimes, try as I might, I just can't think of a good design for my current application. When I get blocked up like this, I tend to walk around a lot, get distracted etc. I know that designing is difficult and I'm trying really hard to learn as much as I can. I even come in on weekends to help lessen my workload during the week. I get constant input from my co-worker and they're always there to help, for some reason my motivation is so low after working on this thing for so many weeks. So, I'm going to post here to see if I can gain some new perspective on this. Here are some things I'd like to know:
Do your projects go over the prescribed time frame?
What tips do you have for getting "un-stuck" in the design process?
How do you stay motivated throughout a task/project?
What should I focus on to become more effective at my job?
