Ways to play around, projects, in high school?

Hey all,

I'm just curious what are some ways I can play around and try to get a taste of mechanical engineering. I'm already on my school's robotics team, so I'm curious what else lays out for there where I can design and make things. So far from my own research, I've found prospect in some things with RC cars(maybe that's more with electronics), and this channel doing stuff with legos. In addition, BeamNG.drive seems a bit related, albeit most likely trivial as a video game.

For you engineers out there, maybe there is potential for me to draw inspiration from some of your personal projects?

I'm eager to see if you have any suggestions, and to hear what you like to do in your free time engineering-related, which could be a hobby of some sort!
