Hello! This is my first post here, so forgive me if this is not appropriate for this forum. I am doing some calculations on groove deformation and need some advice. The part submerged into the groove will be exposed to a certain force. I need a certain area to withsthand the force, using Stress = F/A I have to use fillets on the part and groove, and I am wondering how this will affect the groove area. In the figure to the left, the groove area will be (Pie/4 *(D1^2-D2^2) In the figure to the right will the area being exposed to groove deformation be the same as on the left, of do i have to use (Pie/4 *(D4^2-D3^2)? D3 and D4 are supposed to be drawn where the radii ends. I am working on a small groove and have little material to work on, and my fillets (Radius) will affect my component to a critical level if I have to used D3 and D4 for the groove area. The part submerged will be equally sized to the groove, so all the parts and radii will be flush. (Shearing of the part is not a concern!) Hope someone can help me clear this up! [link] [comments] |
