I'm an undergrad of mechanical engineering and I recently joined an EPC company coming from a design company. I originally left the design company since I think I lack the experience to actually do design work properly. The company is a support subsidiary company of a power plant contractor where we get to make 3D models of the various components inside the plant. This is really fun for me, I get to work overtime a lot and don't really notice the time goes by, but honestly at first I found that this job is kind of hard since I don't know what "this" looks like, I never seen "that" before. etc. So I thought joining an EPC company would fix this if I got a chance to work on site and see "this" and "that" personally.
So I left my design job after only working for a few months and joined an EPC company that designs, and constructs, power plants as well, this happened about 8 months ago. Ever since joining the new company, I immediately regret my decision. I got in a department that is really boring when it comes to our workflow, you have to read a lot of documents etc and make sure the project goes according to code, plan, etc. I can't really feel my job as an engineer. I am hoping for some site works in the near future but I don't think this is happening any time soon. I don't want to seem like a quitter but I really hate my job at the moment. Any advice? Please help me.
