Spring method for reducing load on hot plate element

I'm working a on a project where I'm using a portable hot-plate element to warm 4 gallon of water. One of my concerns is that 4 gallons of water is too much weight on the hot plate element. I'm looking for a way to offload that weight.

One of my ideas is to position 4 screws to help support the overhanging edges of my kettle. I've got a simple diagram here https://i.imgur.com/VX474zq.png

However, I want to ensure the kettle is always in contact with the hot plate. If the screws aren't positioned perfectly, they'll either support too much weight and lift the kettle off the hotplate or they'll be too low and not support any weight.

Is anyone with familiar with a spring mechanism that I could attach to the end of these screws such that they would help support weight but also ensure the kettle is in contact with the hot plate?
