A list of great free engineering tools

Please add anything that you see worthwhile and a little description would be nice. I’m gonna start off with some of my favorites:

  • GrabCAD - great for sharing CAD files and making teamwork easier. I also use it to learn from other people’s designs and sometimes share my own publicly for feedback.
  • Engineering Toolbox - has all kinds of calculations and info at one place. My go-to place when I need to make some analysis by hand
  • Fractory.co - I use the automated pricing to compare solutions. This function has actually helped me to design for cost and give a quick approximate quote to the customer
  • Draftsight - great drawing tool that is similar to AutoCAD and free to use for my side projects with home computer
  • Fusion 360 - free 3D program. The same reasons as for Draftsight
