I'm quite interested in designing a little button for myself and am not making any progress...
I have a rough understanding how it could work - but when I get to the mechanical details it all a brain fart. Who can help me/provide me with a book or tutorial on how to design the mechinal components of buttons/switches? Like:
- How does a spring fit into my design?
- How should the parts interact?
- What gears can I use?
- I think some ballpoint pens already have that mechanism thing figured out that I want - is there something I can look into especially for this? (I watched a video from the engineering guy and was a little surprised when he said that about 50 people worked on the first ballpoint pen mechanism)
Some more details of what I want to build:
- A button purely mechanical
- Size about 1-2 cm by 1-2 cm width
- It can be pushed and will always go back into the initial position
- The top changes with each push in color.
How would I get started? I feel like there are a ton of solutions, I have a few ideas but I'm stuck at how to actually go ahead and build a prototype or test out the mechanics...
