[Robotics] Need help knowing what to "google" for design idea

I'm currently in the "background research" phase for a robot whose purpose is to grab racquetballs from various locations. I don't want to use a gripper however since I have a limitation of motors (5 to be exact). The idea I have to use something like a syringe. Basically ill have a hollow cylindrical shell very slightly above the diameter of the racquetball, and ill approach the racquetball, and use a motor to retract a flat disk within the cylinder to create a vacuum, "sucking" the racquetball into the cylinder. I have a couple of questions regarding what to "google" since I haven't found anything regarding this method to gather items. I understand that the way this is working is using the gas law PV = PV, but I'm not sure what else to search in order to make a preliminary design without having to physically prototype yet. What can I search in order to find out if suction for such a big object can occur, optimizing the length of this cylinder, and knowing how fast a plate should retract to create enough of a "suction" . I have motors ranging from 4.5 RPM at 125 in-lb of Torque, to motors with 5840 RPM at 12.4 in-lb of torque. Knowing what motor is obviously important since I want to create a strong enough suction, but I don't know what equations out there would help me find these answers.

I'm simply asking to be steered in the right direction in terms of resources, but I would also highly appreciate constructive criticism on this idea :)

Thank you.
