Are you happy with ME?

I'm currently a freshman pursuing a ME bachelor degree. At first I was skeptical between civil and mechanical engineering but decided to go with mechanical for my passion towards the automotive industry and manufacturing. But lately, I have been reading comments and posts about how the job isn't that lucrative compared to other engineering fields. I know that a person should follow their passion but I'm just afraid of regretting my decision later on. I'm really passionate about mechanical engineering. Currently, idk exactly where I'll be heading towards in ME and I know that it is considered one of the largest fields of engineering. So my question is, are you happy as a mechanical engineer? Is it unrealistic to think a Chemical Engineering undergrad could move on to a Naval Archcitecture & Marine Engineering Master's?

Posting here because the Naval Architecture sub is essentially dead and it's mechanical engineering adjacent. I did all 4 years of my Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering, and about a year and a half ago I realized that it wasn't what I wanted to do with my life but was too afraid to start over in another curriculum and I'm kicking myself eternally for doing so. I've been speaking with a professor at a university with a fantastic NAME department and I've been told a couple of times that even if I do the right prep over this next year (I'm taking my GRE soon, I've enrolled in a couple of ME courses as a non-degree seeking student, buying books on naval architecture) it may not work out how I want. I don't want to crash and burn after finally becoming excited about my future prospects but I also don't want to continue doing something I am not wholly passionate about. I just need to know if this is possible and if anyone here has any experience s...
