Is it okay to start off as a mechanical engineering technician when I do want a mechanical engineer job in the future?

I’m having a hard time landing a mechanical engineer position due to my lack of experiences. (Recent Grad from a four year uni) Is it okay to accept a mechanical engineering technician job and work my way up somehow? Or would this hurt my chances of becoming a mechanical engineer.
