Anyone familiar with a resource of mechanical design case studies?

I'm very interested in learning other peoples approach to mechanical design. I'm hoping someone can point me towards a library of case studies. I imagine the format of the case study to be something as follows:

  1. create concepts
  2. hand calcs
  3. tolerance analysis
  4. CAD/drawings
  5. prototype
  6. experiment/gather data
  7. data analysis/curve fitting
  8. optimization
  9. etc

My ultimate goal is to move beyond being a "CAD monkey" that designs with "intuition" and actually back my designs up with real engineering.
