Finally going to school, any advice is appreciated

Due to some unfortunate home circumstances I was unable to go to college after I graduated high school (about 5 years ago), but am finally gearing up to start my 4 year for a BS in mechanical engineering. I’m working on my own to sharpen my trig/precal skills, but I’m wondering if that will help at all. Being out of school for so long, I could use any advice I can get. What are your college/engineering life tips? I want to make the most of this opportunity and do the best I can. Thanks!!
