Hello everyone. I am working in maintenance (PdM), and do vibration analysis on equipment. Recently, I was asked by my manager to look into Bode Plots and motor run ups (not sure if it was a test, since he did test me in the past with something he knew the answer to but wanted me to struggle over).
I want to know if factories actually perform Run Up / Run Down tests on their motors? It feels a bit excessive, since most motors run at standard speeds, or is it exclusively for variable speed motors? It also seems excessive to plot the whole thing on a Bode diagrams, since I hear that you should be able to just hammer a motor and find its natural frequency, and that frequency would become the critical frequency. So, question #2, is the natural and the critical frequencies the same there?
Thanks.
