Hey!I'm a mechanical engineering student and got placed in my 7th SEM in a very reputed R&D company (automation)

I've been selected for the post of Sales consultant engineer in globally well established company. I have taken up the offer, but I'm concerned about my career path starting from a posting as such. This does require technical knowledge, and this company is mainly a product based company. Is this a bad decision? And what are my possible CAREER paths?
