Mechanical Engineering Career Advice

Hello everyone. I'm a fourth year mechanical engineering student. I'm currently doing an internship which entails bioengineering work which is good experience but not exactly what I want to end up doing. I chose mechanical engineering because I like the idea of inventing and design work while also testing those designs. Basically, I would like to be part of the whole process of the conception of an idea to a fully functioning model. I don't have a particular field that I necessarily want to invent in. It's more like, I'll see a problem in a random scenario and think of a design that would be a good solution for it. I know there's no job out there that is labeled 'random inventor' but if any of you know of a good field or job type to look into or any advice at all on moving forward into a fulfilling career path, that would much appreciated. Thanks!
